Knowledge, learning, and growth are the ultimate rewards for doing your job in school. We also know that incentives help with motivation. Here are a few of the ideas our team has that will help students work toward small- and long-term goals:
Knights Kash: Our three rules throughout our school are: be respectful, be responsible, and be safe. As staff observes students who carry out these rules well, students can earn Knights Kash. Students can use Knights Kash to purchase things throughout the year (and it even works for overdue book fees) or to add to a class "pool" of money for things like pizza lunches or donuts.
Positive Parent Contact and Positive Office Referrals: In addition to regularly noticing great things students do, the teachers have the goal of sharing positive information with parents via e-mail, phone call, or note. We also might refer students to Ms. Oxarart, our administrator, to share something amazing with her.
Friday E & R: Students who have team time at 2:00 on Fridays can work toward some down time during Friday E & R. Those who are behind in their work will participate in an environment that assist them in grade improvement. Those who do not need this support will be afforded more flexible time during Friday E & R.
Team Time: These trips are considered "freebies." We want our team to get together and have some fun. We have planned a trip to Ewing Park for first quarter and a movie in the room for second quarter.
Positive Reinforcement Trips (PRT): These times will be instituted during the second semester of sixth grade. The bar is raised for participation. Students are welcome to join the trips, but the following must be true: quarter grades in ALL classes must be As, B,s, or Cs. Some Ds can be considered in certain circumstances. Student behavior across the building is tracked via our Skyward system. Mr. Neuman and Mrs. Plato will look at the behavior information on Skyward to determine if it affects a student's PRT eligibility. The teachers will ALWAYS contact the parents regarding student eligibility for these trips. We have tentatively brainstormed ice skating, Sky Zone, bowling, and/or roller skating as possibilities for our trips.
